“We want to connect with the growing cryptocurrency community that can help sustain the future of Chicago animal welfare and save animal lives,” said Susanna Homan, CEO of PAWS Chicago.
PAWS Chicago, an animal rescue organization committed to end euthanasia for its resident cats and dogs, is now accepting cryptocurrency donations.
In a Tuesday announcement, PAWS Chicago said it would accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE) and other tokens to support its operations at a new hospital for homeless cats and dogs.
The organization hopes to reach cryptocurrency and new technology enthusiasts by promoting crypto donations with digital billboards featuring a dog firing lasers from its eyes.
The iconic dog behind the Dogecoin project was the Japanese Shiba Inu in a popular 2013 meme. Since then, the DOGE cryptocurrency has grown both in popularity, largely thanks to memes and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, and in value as its price rose from less than a cent to a record high of $ 0.68.
